Building a career in the dairy industry - an employee guide

The People in Dairy team have produced a booklet In2Dairy to help anyone who is interested in a career in the Australian dairy industry but are not sure what is involved or where to begin.

As well as being a guide to starting out and building a career, it also contains links to other organisations that can provide information and services.

In2Dairy assistant farmhand training project in Western Victoria

Following the success of a pilot in 2010/11, this project has two main aims. The first is to provide the Western Victorian dairy industry with a regular cohort of ‘farm-ready’ entry-level employees. The second aim is to keep these better trained workers and their families in the industry and in local communities.

The program involves:

  • 10 days pre-employment training
  • Identifying farms interested in taking on trainees
  • Matching of trainees with suitable farms
  • Ongoing support to both trainee and employer throughout the course of the traineeship

Do you need farm staff?

As an employer partner in the WestVic In2Dairy Assistant Farmhand project, you will be matched with a new entrant to the dairy industry who has already had ten days pre-employment training in dairy and will receive ongoing training in Certificate II in Agriculture. The trainee is employed through a Group Training service (who manage all payroll obligations on your behalf), and is offered to you at a subsidised rate and hassle-free.
